Project Abhaya holds orientation roundtable for NCC Co-Working Group

Project Abhaya has formally launched its National Coordination Committee (NCC) Co-Working Group with a one-day orientation roundtable in Kathmandu. The event brought together 21 NCC members, who are focal persons selected from each of Nepal's provinces, to prepare them for the group's upcoming nationwide implementation activities. This initiative aims to foster fiscal accountability across the country.

The roundtable served as a crucial platform for the NCC members and technical experts to align on the project’s roadmap and establish effective coordination mechanisms. Discussions delved into the governance structure of the Youth Fiscal Accountability Network (YFAN), the specific roles and responsibilities of the provincial focal points, and the expectations for the research, dialogue, and advocacy phases. Ensuring consistent implementation across all seven provinces was a key objective.

Participants engaged in practical discussions on fiscal federalism in Nepal, identifying key challenges, priorities, and indicators of success for the coming year. A technical session also explored public auditing systems, financial reporting standards, and the role of oversight institutions in enhancing public financial accountability. Ishika Panta, Founder and Chairperson of Project Abhaya, emphasized the importance of informed young leaders understanding public finance and citizen engagement, stating, “Building accountable governance requires informed young leaders who understand how public finance works and how citizens can engage with it. This orientation was about creating a shared foundation for collaboration across all seven provinces.”
