Prosecution Investigator Accused of Billion-Won Real Estate Fraud Extradited from Philippines

A South Korean investigator, employed by the prosecution service, is being forcibly repatriated from the Philippines to face charges in a multi-billion won real estate fraud case. The investigator is accused of defrauding tenants of their security deposits on approximately 70 officetels in the Dongtan area of Hwaseong city.

Authorities report that the investigator failed to return deposits to tenants whose lease agreements expired, leading to 25 criminal complaints totaling 3 billion won. The victims filed their complaints in October 2025 after the investigator stopped responding and failed to return their funds.

However, the suspect had already fled to Cebu, Philippines, on September 27, 2025. Following an international search, including passport invalidation and an Interpol red notice, South Korean police, in cooperation with the Philippine Korean Desk, tracked down and arrested the suspect in April 2026.

Upon arrival at Incheon International Airport, the investigator will be arrested under an existing warrant and taken to the Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station for further investigation. Police plan to review the case and consider applying for an arrest warrant.
