Police Seek Owner of 30 Million Won Check Found in South Korea

Authorities in Guri City, Gyeonggi Province, are seeking the rightful owner of a lost check valued at 30 million won (approximately $22,000 USD). The substantial sum was discovered on the street near a fruit store on November 10. The check, issued by a bank last November 12, consists of two 10 million won notes and ten 1 million won notes. A man found the check lying on the ground and reported it to the police. Investigators attempted to trace the owner through the issuing bank, but the check lacked the necessary endorsement, a signature or name on the back used to transfer ownership or identify the holder. Further inquiries with the bank revealed that a 70-year-old woman, identified as the check's issuer, denied issuing such a check or visiting Guri recently. Under South Korea's Lost Property Act, unclaimed lost items are typically held for six months before their disposition.
