Prosecutor: Collecting a bonus with a fake diploma is an aggravating factor

Paraguay's Prosecutor's Office is taking action to invalidate fake diplomas held by 144 teachers, aiming to sanitize public records and prevent further legal complications. Prosecutor Teresa Sosa has requested that the Ministry of Education and Sciences and the National Council of Higher Education collaborate with universities to nullify these fraudulent documents.

The investigation has identified a total of 525 false academic documents. The prosecutor's office has initiated the process for 144 diplomas, seeking to cancel their legal validity and subsequently allow the state to revoke corresponding registrations. Sosa emphasized the need to "sanitize" public records due to existing doubts about the authenticity of these documents.

The Universidad Autónoma de Asunción (UAA) is linked to these 144 cases, and the prosecutor has urged the institution to take necessary measures to ensure the "loss of legal efficacy" of the non-authentic documents. This move is intended to prevent the documents from continuing to produce legal effects.

Sosa also clarified that individuals who used fake titles without knowing they were fraudulent might be exempt from criminal liability. This exemption applies if the person lacked the intent to use a falsified document, meaning they were unaware of its apocryphal nature.
