Prosecutor Patricia Ossa remembered with a mass at the Basílica Menor Don Bosco

Panama City, Panama – A somber memorial mass was held at the Basílica Menor Don Bosco to honor the life of Assistant Public Prosecutor Patricia Soledad Ossa Sánchez. Officials from the Attorney General's Office (PGN) joined colleagues from the Public Ministry and the justice system in paying tribute to a dedicated public servant whose untimely death has sent shockwaves through the institution.

Ossa's tragic passing on May 18, following a violent incident where she was critically wounded by a gunshot, allegedly inflicted by her partner, has deeply affected the legal community. She was rushed to the hospital, but sadly succumbed to her injuries. This event has brought renewed attention to the persistent issue of gender-based violence within the country.

In parallel to the commemorative ceremonies, the wheels of justice are turning. Orlando Cuesta, the individual accused of Ossa's murder, has been formally charged with femicide. During a recent hearing, the prosecution requested and was granted provisional detention, citing clear procedural risks associated with the ongoing investigation. The PGN has affirmed its commitment to pursuing the case vigorously, ensuring that justice is served for Patricia Ossa and her grieving family.
