Prosecutor's office in Loma Pytã closes, forcing residents to move to Zeballos Cué

The Prosecutor's Office Barrial N° 6 in Loma Pytã, Paraguay, will cease operations on September 1, with all its cases and operational attention being transferred to the Barrial N° 5 Prosecutor's Office in Zeballos Cué. This decision, formalized by a decree signed by State Prosecutor General Emiliano Rolón Fernández, mandates that residents of Loma Pytã must now travel to Zeballos Cué for all legal matters, including filing complaints and following criminal proceedings.

The measure, established by Resolution F.G.E. N° 3046, unifies the two neighborhood prosecutor's offices and closes the physical site in Loma Pytã. This reorganization aims to optimize services and rationalize the use of available human resources and infrastructure, according to the resolution's justifications.

This is not the first time the Loma Pytã office has faced closure. In 2019, the Prosecutor General's Office announced a similar shutdown, citing severe budget cuts at the time. That decision sparked protests and organized opposition from neighborhood commissions and residents, who successfully campaigned to prevent the closure. Seven years later, the institution has again decided to consolidate its operations.

Following the consolidation, the unified Barrial N° 5 – Zeballos Cué will operate with three Ordinary Criminal Units. Unit N° 1, led by prosecutor Nélida Maricel Orihuela Battilana, will handle ordinary cases and those related to illegal gambling. Unit N° 2, under prosecutor Sussy María Riquelme Brizuela, will address animal cruelty cases. Unit N° 3, headed by prosecutor Mirta Alice Arévalos Ledesma, will absorb cases previously managed by the former Unit N° 2 of Loma Pytã.
