Prosecutor's Office Refrains from Detaining Roy Suryo Due to Request Letter

The South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office has decided not to detain Roy Suryo and Tifauziah Tyassuma, also known as Dr. Tifa, in a case involving allegations of a fake diploma. The decision came after their lawyer, Refly Harun, and their families submitted requests for the suspension of detention.

Harun explained that the request, submitted on Monday morning before the case's second-stage handover from the police, argued that both Suryo and Dr. Tifa had consistently complied with mandatory reporting procedures. He stated that detention would be ineffective given their cooperation and that they had not ignored investigators' summonses without valid reasons.

Furthermore, Harun asserted that his clients had not provided false information during questioning, obstructed the investigation, attempted to flee, or tampered with evidence. He also noted that they posed no threat to their own safety and had not influenced witnesses. The lawyer added that both individuals have good reputations and clear family backgrounds, with their communities aware of their good character.

As a condition for not being detained, both Roy Suryo and Dr. Tifa are required to report to the authorities once a week. The Prosecutor's Office accepted the detention suspension based on the written requests from their legal team and families, who acted as guarantors.
