Prosecutors monitor police search of Jakarta cafe linked to corruption cases

Indonesian investigators from the National Police's Corruption Eradication Directorate (Kortastipidkor) and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police searched Cafe de’Clan Signature in Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The search is connected to three major corruption cases: money laundering and bribery in the Asabri case, corruption in coal supply that caused a blackout in Sumatra, and a case involving PT Krakatau Steel.

Notably, prosecutors were observed monitoring the search inside the cafe, though they were not part of the investigative teams. Members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) were also present, despite police not requesting their assistance for this specific operation. Tempo observed a prosecutor's official vehicle and a black Kijang vehicle, possibly driven by prosecutors, at the scene.

Investigators left the location around 9:35 p.m. local time, carrying three small black, blue, and red suitcases, one large black suitcase, and a small safe. A two-meter-high safe was also discovered on the second floor of the cafe. Authorities seized a significant amount of foreign and local currency: SGD 3,130,000, US$ 889,965, and Rp 259 million.

The cafe, formerly known as Gontran Cherrier, has a history linked to corruption investigations. It was previously the site where the Deputy Attorney General for Corruption Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah, was reportedly followed in 2024. The cafe's manager, Ferry Yanto Hongkiriwang, was arrested in July 2025 on suspicion of kidnapping and assaulting a police officer.
