Protests in Paros against five-star hotel construction: 'You are losing the islands'

Intense reactions and protests have erupted on the Greek island of Paros over the construction of a five-star hotel complex. The development, situated near Marcello beach in Parikia, has ignited concerns among residents, associations, and local bodies regarding the potential environmental consequences of further tourism expansion.

Author Christos Georgousis addressed a letter to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which was also shared with the mayors of the Cyclades. He criticized the current development approach, suggesting that a hotel could have been built further inland to preserve the coastline. Georgousis urged all island mayors to take action to save the Cyclades from the "onslaught of wealth, luxury, and general lawlessness." He called for a shift in political focus towards environmental protection, emphasizing, "Save nature and Greece should be the first slogan."
