Provisional detention ordered for man accused of lewd acts against 8-year-old girl

A 47-year-old man in Panama faces provisional detention after a judge ordered his arrest and charged him with alleged lewd acts against an 8-year-old girl. The legal proceedings began following accusations made by the child, who reportedly identified a family member as the perpetrator of the alleged abuse.

The investigation originated from incidents that occurred in the corregimiento of Cabuya, within the district of Antón. During a multiple requests hearing, the Municipal Ombudsman's Office of the District of Antón presented the case, arguing for the suspect's alleged involvement in the crimes.

Elements of conviction gathered during the initial stages of the investigation were sufficient for the judge to order the provisional detention. This measure was deemed necessary to ensure the protection of the victim and to prevent the potential destruction or loss of evidence crucial to the ongoing legal process. The man was apprehended on June 17 during a joint operation involving the Ombudsman's Office of Antón and the National Police.
