PSC hands over 50,000 newly recruited constables to police for training

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has formally transferred 50,000 newly recruited police constables to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for essential training. The handover ceremony, presided over by Commissioner retired Justice Paul Galumje, marks a significant step in bolstering the nation's security apparatus.

This large-scale recruitment initiative was undertaken in direct response to President Bola Tinubu's declaration of a nationwide security emergency on November 26, 2025. The President mandated the recruitment of 50,000 new officers as a key measure to combat escalating insecurity throughout Nigeria. The PSC opened its application portal on December 15, 2025, later extending the deadline to February 8, 2026, with the exercise concluding approximately seven months after its commencement.

Receiving the recruits on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, who heads the Force Training and Development Department, commended the PSC for its transparent and credible recruitment process. He assured that the training would commence simultaneously across the country as soon as the necessary funds are disbursed. The Secretary to the PSC, Onyemuche Nnamani, attributed the successful completion of the exercise to effective collaboration among all stakeholders, expressing satisfaction with the outcome.

The handover of these 50,000 constables is expected to significantly enhance the manpower of the Nigeria Police Force. Following their training at designated police colleges and other approved institutions, these new recruits will be deployed to various units, contributing to the ongoing efforts to improve security nationwide.
