PSG lose 2-1 to Monaco, remain winless in Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain’s domestic troubles deepened at the Parc des Princes, where Monaco overturned a one-goal deficit to win 2-1 and leave the reigning European champions without a Ligue 1 victory after three matches.

PSG captain Marquinhos opened the scoring just past the half-hour mark, chesting in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s ball across the face of goal. The goal appeared to put Luis Enrique’s side on course for a first league win of the season in their first home match of the campaign.

Monaco responded after the break. Flavio Nazinho equalised before Belgian winger Stanis Idumbo scored the winner, keeping the principality club at the top of the early standings with nine points from three games. PSG have only two points and already sit seven points behind their rivals.

The defeat came on the same day PSG announced that Luis Enrique had extended his contract by three years, keeping him at the club until 2030. The team will open its bid for a third straight Champions League title next week against Slovan Bratislava, but enters that campaign after draws with Rennes and Lille and a loss to Monaco.

Monaco also left Folarin Balogun out of the squad after he withdrew from an agreed £40 million transfer to Everton on deadline day. The club had also abandoned a proposed sale of Lamine Camara to Chelsea, and Balogun has not played for Monaco this season.
