PSG reject Man City offer for Super Falcons’ midfielder Echegini — Reports

Paris Saint-Germain have turned down several Manchester City approaches for Jennifer Echegini, refusing to release the Nigeria midfielder even though she has only one year left on her contract.

The 25-year-old has become an important part of PSG’s squad. She spent most of her youth career in England and joined the French club two years ago after a season with Juventus in Italy.

Echegini also played a decisive role in Nigeria’s successful Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign last year. She scored the winning goal against Morocco in the final, as the Super Falcons claimed a record-extending 10th continental title.

Manchester City want to strengthen their team before the new Women’s Super League season and have until Thursday’s transfer deadline to complete more business. Their interest in Echegini follows the club’s announcement that experienced forward and midfielder Vivianne Miedema will miss the start of the season with a knee injury.

PSG are preparing for a Women’s Champions League third-round qualifying match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Another PSG player, France defender Elisa de Almeida, is expected to move to Arsenal before the deadline after the clubs agreed terms. The fee is understood to be about £550,000, and she is expected to play against Frankfurt before traveling to London to complete the transfer.
