The Champions League winners faced the Europa League champions, Aston Villa, in a hard-fought match at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria. This win marks PSG's second Super Cup triumph, having previously defeated Tottenham Hotspur in a penalty shootout last year. The UEFA Super Cup pits the winners of the Champions League against the winners of the Europa League to determine Europe's top club. PSG earned their spot by defeating Arsenal in the Champions League final, while Aston Villa reached the Super Cup stage after beating Freiburg in the Europa League final, their first appearance in the competition since 1982. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for PSG in the 20th minute, but Aston Villa equalized just before halftime with a goal from Bryan Masiño in the 45th minute. The decisive goal came in the second half when Désiré Doué finished a one-on-one chance after a through pass from Ousmane Dembélé, a goal that was initially scrutinized for offside but upheld after a video review. PSG successfully defended Aston Villa's late attacks to secure the 2-1 win. Notably, the match was officiated by Somali referee Omar Artan, marking the first time a non-European referee has officiated the UEFA Super Cup.
