PT holds 'scenic' convention Sunday to display Lula images on social media

The Workers' Party (PT) in Brazil convened on Sunday in São Paulo to formally endorse President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as their candidate for re-election.

The ceremony was broadcast live on YouTube and interspersed with interviews and videos, one of which used the slogan 'red carpet for the son of the Northeast.'

Despite showcasing images of Lula with global leaders, including a past interaction with then-U.S. President Donald Trump, Lula's discourse has emphasized national sovereignty and positioned the U.S. president as an opponent seeking to interfere in Brazilian elections. This framing contrasts with the PT's past engagement with the Trump administration.

Lula is set to contest his seventh presidential election, with his campaign strategy centered on the narrative that he represents the "safe path" to prevent Brazil from falling into the hands of "adventurers." The convention officially nominated Lula and confirmed Alckmin as his vice-presidential candidate, initiating what insiders describe as version 3.0 of the "us vs. them" strategy. This approach aims to galvanize support by presenting a clear dichotomy in the upcoming election.
