Puerto Quijarro Backs Special Economic Zone in Germán Busch

Puerto Quijarro’s municipal council has backed the creation of the Germán Busch Special Economic Development Zone, declaring the project a priority of strategic interest for the border region of Santa Cruz.

The proposal would bring Puerto Quijarro together with Puerto Suárez and El Carmen Rivero Tórrez under a shared strategy to expand production, trade, logistics and tourism. Its stated aim is to attract investment and create new opportunities for people in the province.

Project manager Lisa Lewin thanked municipal authorities and council members for supporting the initiative. She highlighted their “vision, commitment and decision to support initiatives that seek to create greater opportunities for our population.”

The proposed zone would seek to use Germán Busch’s location and links to regional integration corridors. The province’s strategic advantages include access to the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway, proximity to Brazil and infrastructure connected to Bolivia’s foreign trade.

The law represents a municipal step toward advancing the project. Its implementation still depends on the institutional and regulatory stages needed to establish the Special Economic Development Zone.
