Puli's geographic center to undergo major transformation with resort hotel plans

The area around Taiwan's geographic center in Puli, Nantou County, is set for a significant revitalization as part of the government's tourism development strategy. The 'North Return Line Peak, Smiling South Bay' flagship initiative includes plans to develop the Hu Tou Shan (Tiger Head Mountain) area into a premier destination.

Key components of the project involve the creation of a 360-degree elevated wooden walkway, named 'Formosa Ring,' around the Taiwan center point monument. This elevated path is designed to offer visitors a unique, slow-paced experience amidst nature, promoting forest therapy. A new visitor center, designed with the imagery of a butterfly's metamorphosis, will be built atop Hu Tou Shan, featuring an observation deck and ecological viewing platforms.

To further enhance tourist services, plans are in motion to develop an international resort hotel on Hu Tou Shan. This BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) project aims to provide accommodation for up to a thousand guests, significantly boosting the region's hospitality capacity. The initiative is part of a broader effort to establish the area as a year-round destination for sightseeing and recreation.

Premier Cho Jung-tai emphasized Nantou's importance to Taiwan, stating, "If Nantou is strong, Taiwan is strong." The Tourism Administration's 'North Return Line Peak' plan aims to create international tourism appeal by highlighting the unique biodiversity and characteristics along the Tropic of Cancer. The 'Taiwan Heart. Rhythmic Sun Moon' project, a part of this initiative, has a budget of approximately NT$1 billion and focuses on developing the Puli Hu Tou Shan scenic area, including acquiring land for a transit station and parking facilities.
