Punta Chame Celebrates 110 Years with New Traditions and Civic Parade

Punta Chame, a community in Panamá Oeste, is marking its 110th anniversary by establishing a new tradition centered around civic celebrations and community engagement. This year, for the first time, the town organized a torchlight parade and a competition among participants as part of the festivities leading up to the main event.

Zury Guzmán, the representative for Punta Chame, explained that the initiative aims to discover new ways to honor the community's history and ensure these activities continue in the future. "This year we wanted to celebrate the 110 years of the founding of the district for the first time and exalt it in a different way, to create a tradition within the community," she said.

The celebration continued with a civic parade, which also featured the debut of the band from the Punta Chame Multigrade School. The day's events include activities for children, live music, and gatherings at the community center, designed to encourage family participation. Guzmán emphasized the goal of fostering a family-friendly atmosphere and promoting camaraderie among residents.

Punta Chame, historically a fishing community, is also experiencing growth in its tourism sector. The representative highlighted the intention to leverage this tourism potential responsibly while continuing to drive the community's development.
