Pyeongsan Bookshop, Moon Jae-in's Bookstore, Attracts 630,000 Visitors in 1200 Days

Pyeongsan Bookshop, established by former South Korean President Moon Jae-in near his residence in Pyeongsan Village, Gyeongnam, has become a significant cultural hub, attracting a large number of visitors. As of August 8, 2026, the bookshop marked its 1200th day of operation, having welcomed a cumulative total of 628,769 visitors since its opening on April 25, 2023. On average, the bookshop sees 523 visitors per day.

Former President Moon Jae-in is a regular presence at the bookshop, interacting with visitors almost daily. In his role as bookshop curator, he has recommended approximately one book every ten days, totaling 124 recommended titles. Notably, several of these recommendations, including "A Father's Liberation Diary" by Jeong Ji-a and "Because You Are Lonely, You Are Human" by poet Jeong Ho-seung, have achieved bestseller status.

The bookshop dedicates its operating profits to various public benefit programs. It runs an outreach program that brings books directly to special schools, remote island and mountainous regions, and child protection agencies, having donated 4,466 books to 2,122 individuals who lack access to reading materials. Additionally, Pyeongsan Bookshop has gifted a total of 5,230 books to approximately 120 small libraries in Yangsan City and across the country.

Furthermore, the bookshop supports local community bookstores through its "Introducing Neighborhood Bookstores" project. This initiative has expanded its support, providing author lecture fees to 19 bookstores in 2024, 30 in 2025, and 52 this year, totaling 100 bookstores. It has also promoted 50 neighborhood bookstores through a dedicated section. Pyeongsan Bookshop also offers book gifts and photo opportunities with former President Moon Jae-in to youth organizations that visit.

Pyeongsan Bookshop aims to serve not only as a center for publishing and reading culture but also as a community living room, a resting place, and a cultural space for the neighborhood. The bookshop invites individuals and organizations to support its mission through donations, contributing to its efforts in promoting reading and cultural activities.
