Queen Camilla admits difficulty hiding King Charles' cancer diagnosis

Queen Camilla has spoken about the immense challenge of keeping her husband King Charles III's cancer diagnosis a secret shortly after he began treatment in early 2024. The Queen shared her experience during a conversation with Laura Lee, director of the cancer support charity Maggie's, for the organization's 30th anniversary.

Nobody could say anything at that time; it was quite difficult. I was about to say something, but, you know, I felt it wasn't the time to do it.

In a video recorded at Clarence House, the royal couple's London residence, Camilla described the difficulty of fulfilling official engagements in January 2024, including opening a new Maggie's center at the Royal Free Hospital, while knowing the King had cancer but unable to disclose it until the official announcement.

"Nobody could say anything at that time; it was quite difficult. I was about to say something, but, you know, I felt it wasn't the time to do it," the Queen told Lee. "I was dying to let it out, but obviously I couldn't. I asked them questions, (but) I didn't want to pry too much."

Camilla noted that witnessing the struggles of cancer patients and their families deepened her understanding of the importance of organizations like Maggie's. The King's illness was publicly revealed in February 2024, though the specific type of cancer has not been disclosed. Buckingham Palace has consistently reported that the King's health is progressing positively as he continues treatment.
