'Queen of country music' Dolly Parton dies aged 80

Dolly Parton, the iconic 'Queen of Country Music,' has died at the age of 80. Her passing was announced by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who shared a heartfelt video message as per Parton's wishes, made years in advance.

My name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I'm representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean.

Seaver, who served as Parton's head of security for over two decades, expressed a mix of pride and sadness in announcing his aunt's death. He conveyed that Parton "has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus," suggesting a peaceful transition.

This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality.

Parton's death comes after she had recently spoken about neglecting her own health while caring for her late husband, Carl Thomas Dean, who passed away in March 2025. She had also recently pulled out of an appearance at her Dollywood theme park due to dizziness and dehydration, with doctors advising against travel.

As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven't truly felt it until now.

Throughout her prolific career spanning six decades, Parton penned approximately 3,000 songs, including the globally recognized ballad "I Will Always Love You." She released 49 studio albums and numerous compilations, earning 11 Grammy Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. Her acting career included a notable role in the 1980 comedy "9 to 5."
