Querétaro eliminated from Leagues Cup 2026 after 3-0 defeat to Seattle Sounders

Querétaro's campaign in the 2026 Leagues Cup came to an unceremonious end as they were convincingly defeated 3-0 by the Seattle Sounders. The Mexican team, known as Gallos Blancos, showed little fight and were outplayed throughout the match at Lumen Field.

Needing a win to keep their hopes of advancing to the next round alive, Querétaro was dominated by the MLS representative from the opening whistle. Seattle Sounders established control early, and Sebastian Gomez opened the scoring in the fourth minute after a well-worked team play. While Querétaro's goalkeeper, José Hernández, made a save shortly after, it was one of the few moments of genuine threat from the visitors.

The Sounders, led by Brian Schmetzer, maintained possession and relentlessly attacked Querétaro's goal. Daniel Musovski extended the lead in the 42nd minute, and Albert Rusnak sealed the victory in the 68th minute. Querétaro's defense was repeatedly exposed, committing numerous errors that the Sounders capitalized on.

With this loss, Querétaro was eliminated after losing their first two matches without scoring a single goal. They will play one more game against Chivas, who are also eliminated, primarily to salvage some pride. Meanwhile, the Seattle Sounders look ahead to their next match, aiming to advance to the quarterfinals.
