Quito Airport reschedules flights for runway maintenance this Saturday

Quito’s air connections will pause temporarily on Saturday, September 5, while the airport closes its runway for scheduled preventive maintenance. Runway operations will stop from 02:00 to 14:00, but the passenger terminal will continue serving travelers normally.

The measure was coordinated and approved by the administration of Mariscal Sucre International Airport and Ecuador’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The authorities notified commercial airlines so they could inform passengers directly.

Saturday was chosen because it carries the lowest volume of regular air traffic. The Metropolitan Public Airport Services Company will oversee the work and its compliance with the annual plan and technical infrastructure standards.

Airlines including Avianca, Copa Airlines and Aeroméxico adjusted international operations for flights before maintenance begins and after the runway reopens. Domestic schedules will also change. LATAM will operate a flight to Guayaquil at 00:04, while Avianca will depart for the same destination at 01:45. Flights to El Coca and Loja will resume after the closure.

The maintenance calendar presented by concessionaire Quiport includes additional runway suspensions from 02:00 to 14:00 on Saturdays, September 12 and 26 and October 3. A shorter maintenance period is planned for October 17, from 06:00 to 14:00.
