Quito Avenues Face Extended Closures for Road Repairs

Quito residents face significant traffic disruptions as two major avenues undergo extensive repair and rehabilitation work. The Empresa Pública Metropolitana de Movilidad y Obras Públicas (Epmmap) announced a complete closure of Avenida De Los Conquistadores in Guápulo.

The closure on Avenida De Los Conquistadores, located between Calle Ninahualpa and the Simón Bolívar avenue bridge, is scheduled to last until July 31. This is to facilitate necessary repairs to the cobblestone pavement.

Further disruptions are expected on Avenida 12 de Octubre, where road rehabilitation will commence on July 27 and continue for two months. The Municipalidad de Quito has outlined a phased approach to this project, involving partial closures and traffic pattern changes between July 27 and October 2, 2026. The Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) will manage these changes, which will be implemented in three distinct phases, affecting various intersections and traffic lanes.

During the rehabilitation of Avenida 12 de Octubre, the AMT recommends drivers utilize alternative routes such as Avenida Ladrón de Guevara, Avenida La Coruña, Avenida Madrid, and Avenida Isabel la Católica to mitigate congestion. Public transport services will reroute along Avenida Toledo, Avenida La Coruña, and Avenida Ladrón de Guevara to ensure continued mobility for commuters.
