Quy Nhon and Pleiku to spearhead Gia Lai's growth strategy

Gia Lai province in Vietnam is embarking on a new development strategy, aiming to transform Quy Nhon and Pleiku into twin engines of growth. This initiative seeks to create a unified economic corridor stretching east-west across the province, expanding its overall economic reach. The vision was recently emphasized by Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, during working sessions in June.

The strategy designates Quy Nhon as a modern coastal urban center, poised to become a hub for commerce, services, tourism, and marine economy. It will also serve as a crucial link connecting Vietnam's South Central Coast region with the Central Highlands. This positions Quy Nhon as the eastern gateway for provincial growth.

Conversely, Pleiku is designated as the western growth pole. It is set to become the primary socio-economic center for the northern Central Highlands, leveraging its advantages in trade, services, urban development, and resort tourism. The provincial leadership stressed the importance of dismantling isolated development mindsets, urging for integrated planning where different areas complement each other to foster new development spaces.

Quy Nhon is oriented to become a modern coastal city, a center for commerce, services, tourism, and the marine economy, a gateway connecting the South Central Coast region with the Central Highlands.

Specific directives for Quy Nhon include accelerating the completion of its expanded urban master plan to drive growth, efficiently utilize land resources, and develop key projects. The city is planned with a multi-polar model, with Quy Nhon ward as the core for high-quality commerce, services, tourism, and coastal activities. Quy Nhon Dong will focus on the marine economy and island tourism, while Quy Nhon Tay will develop industries and logistics. Quy Nhon Bac and Nam will expand with new urban areas, and Nhon Chau commune is targeted for unique island tourism.

For Pleiku, the focus is on modern, civilized, green, and livable development, reinforcing its role as the economic heart of the western part of the province. The leadership reiterated the need for seamless integration, ensuring that all districts and communes function as a unified entity, mutually supportive and exploiting their unique advantages.
