Racing Club appoints Juan Pablo Vojvoda as new coach

Racing Club has appointed Juan Pablo Vojvoda as the new head coach of their men's professional team, signing a contract until June 2027. The Argentine club announced the move via social media, with Vojvoda already leading his first training session.

Vojvoda takes over from Gustavo Costas, who was fired in late May following the team's elimination from the Copa Sudamericana group stage after a draw against Caracas. This marks a significant change for "La Academia" as they aim to improve their performance after a disappointing first half of the season.

The 51-year-old coach brings a wealth of experience, having most recently managed Brazilian club Santos. Although he secured qualification for the current Copa Sudamericana with Santos, he was dismissed in March of this year due to a poor start to the season. His previous coaching roles include stints at Newell's, Defensa y Justicia, Talleres, and Huracán in Argentina, as well as Unión La Calera in Chile. Notably, he spent five seasons at Fortaleza, where he secured five regional titles and guided the team to the 2023 Copa Sudamericana final, ultimately losing to Corinthians.

Vojvoda inherits a Racing team that needs to rebound after a difficult first semester. Beyond their early exit from the Copa Sudamericana, the team also suffered a significant defeat against Rosario Central in the quarterfinals of the Argentine Apertura Tournament. In the upcoming second half of the year, Racing will compete in the Clausura Tournament and the Copa Argentina.
