Racing loses two starters before Tigre match: Sosa to Vasco da Gama, Rodríguez out over dispute

Argentine club Racing suffered significant setbacks just hours before their match against Tigre, with two key starters, Santiago Sosa and Baltasar Rodríguez, being unexpectedly removed from the lineup. The departures highlight ongoing transfer market activities and internal player disputes.

Santiago Sosa, who was a confirmed starter for coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda, was withdrawn from the squad due to his imminent transfer to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama. The deal is reportedly valued at eight million dollars gross, with Racing awaiting final guarantees before the move is official. The club decided it was too risky to play Sosa with the operation so close to completion.

Baltasar Rodríguez's absence stems from a different issue: a reported "rebellion" over contract negotiations. The 23-year-old midfielder, who recently renewed his contract with improved terms, is allegedly unhappy with the lack of progress on a potential move to Estudiantes. Despite discussions between the clubs and representatives, no agreement has been finalized, leading to Rodríguez's refusal to play.

Racing is expected to receive six million dollars net from Sosa's transfer. The club intends to use these funds to pursue Agustín Cardozo, a midfielder from Lanús. Sosa departs Racing after 113 appearances, seven goals, and two titles, leaving a void in the midfield that the club hopes to fill with Cardozo.
