After a 25-year career in radio, Taiwanese host Ou Mark is set to take center stage as the master of ceremonies for the 61st Golden Bell Awards for Radio Broadcasting. Known for his work on programs like "Mark's Mailbox" and "Mark's Storytelling," Ou Mark has transitioned from his usual behind-the-scenes role to hosting the prestigious event. He described himself as a "rookie" in the radio circle, acknowledging the decades-long careers of many of his predecessors. Ou Mark recalled his early days, including hosting weekend shows in college for a mere NT$250 per hour, which, after taxes, amounted to NT$225. Even after taking on a full-time show post-military service, his hourly wage only increased to NT$500. He admitted that these modest earnings significantly impacted his romantic relationships, with partners eventually leaving due to his perceived financial instability in the broadcasting field. This led him to a critical juncture where he had to choose between his romantic life and his passion for radio. Ultimately, he chose radio, even if it meant remaining single. To supplement his income, Ou Mark ventured into advertising voice-overs, which eventually paved the way for his roles as an awards show MC, voice branding, and online courses, allowing him to balance his passion with a stable livelihood. He also revealed a long-held musical ambition, aiming to release an album and potentially compete for the Best New Artist award at the Golden Melody Awards by age 50, drawing inspiration from jazz-influenced artists like Soft Lipa.
