Radu Drăgușin will have a new coach after Fiorentina sack Fabio Grosso

Fabio Grosso's time at Fiorentina ended after only three league matches, as the traditional Italian club dismissed its coach following a disastrous start to the season.

Fiorentina announced that it had released Grosso from his duties on Sunday. The team lost all three of its league games and sits at the bottom of the Serie A standings. Its defeats included a 3-0 home loss to newly promoted Frosinone at the end of August and a 2-1 defeat by Torino last Saturday.

Grosso arrived in Florence at the beginning of June from Sassuolo. The former Italy international and member of the 2006 World Cup-winning squad took charge of three league matches and one cup game. His earlier coaching spell at Olympique Lyon also lasted only three months, from September to November 2023, and ended after seven matches, including one win.

The level has risen a lot. Now there are no teams against whom it is easy to play. It is certainly a high-level league.

The dismissal comes during Fiorentina's centenary year. Stefano Pioli and Paolo Vanoli had coached the team during the 2025-26 season, with Vanoli dismissed at the end of May despite keeping the club in Serie A in 15th place.

Romanian defender Radu Drăgușin joined Fiorentina from Tottenham last summer on a paid loan costing 1.5 million euros, with a purchase option set at 17.5 million euros. He supplied the assist for Fiorentina's opening goal against Torino and also provided a pass for a goal in the 4-1 Coppa Italia win over Benevento. Drăgușin said he had received a warm welcome at the club and was happy with the group.
