Rahul Gandhi attacks PM Modi over student forgiveness remarks, demands apology

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks about forgiving students who allegedly hurled abuses at him and his late mother. Gandhi asserted that the students "do not need forgiveness" but are "owed his apology."

Sharing images of his meetings with students and their families, Gandhi highlighted the pain of grieving parents and raised questions about a "broken education system." He pointed to issues like leaked exam papers and canceled tests that have destroyed students' futures. Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of lacking empathy, stating Modi had not met "a single grieving parent" or a student whose future was ruined by exam irregularities.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had described the protesting students as "misguided" in a video message. He said while their language was unacceptable, the focus should be on guiding them rather than punishing them. Modi appealed for efforts to reform the students, suggesting that legal action or harassment would not be effective.

Gandhi's criticism comes after a 15-year-old girl was booked for allegedly using abusive language against Modi during a protest. The girl, who reportedly identified herself as 15 but was named as 25 in the FIR, issued an apology, calling the incident her "first and last mistake."
