Raids spark fear in Falimari and nearby villages, prompting many male residents to leave their homes

Fear has gripped Falimari and neighboring villages in Lalmonirhat, Bangladesh, after police arrested 10 individuals in connection with violent attacks on law enforcement and vandalism. The crackdown followed the murder of seven-year-old Nandini Rani, whose body was found in a maize field Tuesday morning.

Police have arrested 10 people in connection with two cases filed over attacks on law enforcers, vandalism of government vehicles, and arson following the murder of seven-year-old Nandini Rani in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat.

Following the discovery of Nandini's body, police detained the prime suspect, Bidhan Chandra. A mob then allegedly attacked police officers and district administration officials in an attempt to free the suspect, injuring about 18 police personnel and vandalizing six government vehicles. The assailants also reportedly set fire to three rooms of the suspect's house.

Following the recovery, police detained the prime suspect, Bidhan Chandra, of the same village. Shortly after the detention, a group of people allegedly attacked police officers and officials of the district and upazila administrations in an attempt to snatch the suspect from police custody.

Nandini's father filed a murder case against Bidhan Chandra and his parents. While Bidhan and his father have been arrested, the ongoing raids have instilled panic, leading many male residents to leave their homes and seek refuge with relatives. Police are reviewing video footage to identify all those involved in the attacks.

Around 18 police personnel were injured in the attack. The assailants also vandalised six government vehicles, including those used by the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police.
