Rain and thunderstorms to continue across El Salvador through Saturday morning

Rain and thunderstorms will continue in parts of El Salvador on Friday and could last into early Saturday, according to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

During the early hours of Friday, storms will focus mainly on central and western departments and the coastal belt. Rain could continue into the morning near San Salvador and in some coastal municipalities. Skies will remain partly cloudy later in the morning, with isolated rain expected around midday in the Bálsamo mountain range.

Afternoon storms are forecast in parts of the northern mountains and the central and western volcanic belt. At night, the storms are expected to shift toward eastern and central areas, with the possibility of continued rain in central, western and coastal zones during Saturday’s early hours.

The storms could bring wind gusts above 40 kilometers per hour. General winds are expected to reach 9 to 18 kilometers per hour. Temperatures could rise to 37°C in San Miguel and La Unión, 35°C in Nueva Concepción, 34°C in Acajutla and La Libertad, 33°C in Santa Ana and 32°C in San Salvador. Overnight lows will range from 21°C to 26°C.

The ministry attributes the conditions to easterly flow and a surface trough, supported by systems in the upper troposphere. These conditions are expected to favor rain and thunderstorms, particularly at night and during the early morning.
