Rain Disrupts Washington Open Final, Halts Play at Canadian Open

Tennis tournaments across North America faced significant disruptions on Sunday due to persistent rain. Play was delayed or cancelled at the Washington Open and the Canadian Open events.

In Washington, the women's final between American Jessica Pegula and Alexandra Eala of the Philippines was suspended. Pegula had won the first set 6-4, but the match was halted with Eala leading 2-1 in the second set. The final had already been delayed by three hours before commencing.

The Canadian Open, which features the women's tournament in Toronto and the men's event in Montreal, also suffered from the adverse weather conditions. Play on the Grandstand court in Toronto was suspended during a match between Magdalena Frech of Poland and Leolia Jeanjean of France.

Organizers of the Montreal event announced the cancellation of all ongoing and remaining matches for the day session due to current and forecasted weather. They subsequently cancelled the night session as well. "The August 2nd evening session (Session 3) has been cancelled. Please note that our ticketing team will contact ticket holders shortly to present the options available to them," organizers stated on social media.
