Rain Halts Play at Toronto and Montreal Tennis Tournaments

Torrential rain has significantly impacted the start of the Canada Masters tennis tournaments, forcing the suspension of matches on the opening day. Both the WTA 1000 event in Toronto and the ATP 1000 event in Montreal experienced weather-related delays on Sunday.

In Toronto, only seven of the scheduled 16 women's matches were completed. Notably, veteran American player Venus Williams lost her match to Kamilla Rakhimova of Uzbekistan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Organizers decided to postpone the remaining unfinished matches to Monday due to the persistent downpours.

The situation was similar in Montreal, where just two out of 14 scheduled men's matches could be finalized. The heavy rain compelled organizers to suspend the rest of the day's play and reschedule them for the following day. The disruptions have created an uncertain schedule for the early rounds of both prestigious tournaments.
