Rain Toll Hits 18 in KP Amid Monsoon Spell; Key Road Blocked

The death toll from rain-related incidents and flash floods in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has climbed to 18 as the monsoon spell continues. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts the current spell to persist until July 23, with recent fatalities reported from Upper South Waziristan where four family members died in a roof collapse.

Across the province, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has recorded 14 deaths and 19 injuries since July 19. The authority also reported that 22 houses sustained partial damage and six were completely destroyed. While river and stream levels are currently normal, district administrations have been alerted, and a helpline has been established for public information and emergencies.

Heavy rainfall has severely impacted Lower South Waziristan, causing landslides that have blocked the vital Wana-Gomal Zam Road, a key route for trade and communication. The floods have also damaged agricultural land in several areas. Residents and commuters have described the road as difficult and risky due to fallen boulders, potholes, and damaged infrastructure, urging authorities for immediate repairs.
