Rains and electrical storms to continue Sunday across much of the country, Inameh warns

The National Meteorology and Hydrology Institute (Inameh) has issued a warning for continued rainfall and electrical storms across a significant portion of Venezuela on Sunday, August 23. This forecast follows intense precipitation that affected the country on Saturday night.

According to Inameh, the prevailing weather pattern is due to tropical wave No. 40, which is moving from the east towards the central part of the country. This system is simultaneously interacting with the intertropical convergence zone and a monsoon trough, exacerbating the rainfall.

During the morning, cloudy conditions with showers were reported in various regions, including Guayana Esequiba, Bolívar, Amazonas, Monagas, Anzoátegui, Miranda, La Guaira, the Insular region, western plains, Los Andes, and Zulia. The institute projects a substantial increase in cloud cover for the afternoon and evening, bringing rains of varying intensity and thunderstorms to most areas, with the heaviest activity expected in Bolívar, Amazonas, Anzoátegui, Monagas, central and western plains, Lara, the Central Region, Los Andes, and Zulia.

In the Gran Caracas region, the morning saw partly to fragmented skies with scattered showers, particularly in eastern and mountainous areas. By midday, an increase in cloudiness is anticipated, accompanied by variable intensity rains and thunderstorm activity. Temperatures are expected to range between 20°C and 26°C. Inameh is also monitoring two additional tropical waves in the Atlantic: tropical wave No. 41, expected to reach Guayana Esequiba between Monday and Tuesday, and tropical wave No. 42, anticipated by the end of the week.
