Rajshahi University Forms Committee to Investigate Campus Assaults

Authorities at Rajshahi University (RU) have established a five-member investigation committee to examine recent incidents of assaults and counter-clashes that occurred on campus.

The committee's mandate includes investigating the sequence of events that led to the incidents, identifying the individuals responsible, and submitting a report with recommendations for appropriate action as swiftly as possible. The university announced the formation of this panel in a press release signed by Public Relations Administrator Prof. SM Kamruzzaman.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Professor Md. Rezaul Karim has been appointed as the head of the committee. The other members include Professor Md. Golam Sadiq from the pharmacy department, Professor Md. Asadul Haque from the materials science and engineering department, Professor Md. Ariful Islam from the philosophy department, and Professor A. Naeem Faruqi from the applied chemistry and chemical engineering department.

The decision to form the committee came after a meeting held yesterday involving representatives from the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (Rucsu), Chhatra Shibir leaders, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders, and university authorities. During this meeting, student leaders formally requested the establishment of a probe committee to address the campus violence.
