Rally Leader Sébastien Ogier Hospitalized After Severe Crash in Finland

Nine-time World Rally Championship winner Sébastien Ogier was taken to the hospital for precautionary medical checks following a serious accident during Rally Finland. The French driver and his temporary co-driver Julien Ingrassia were leading the race when their Toyota veered off the road at high speed and rolled over several times during the 17th special stage on Saturday.

The crash immediately led organizers to halt the penultimate special stage of the day. Officials from the Toyota team reported that both Ogier and Ingrassia exited the vehicle without assistance and were initially reported to be in good condition. However, they were transported by helicopter to a hospital for more thorough examinations.

"We have been in contact with them. Sébastien was mainly shaken, he has no broken bones," said Toyota team deputy team leader Juha Kankkunen to Rally.tv. "After an accident like this, it is important that they undergo a thorough medical examination." Kankkunen added that the cause of the accident is not yet known and that a technical malfunction cannot be ruled out.

Toyota had already experienced issues earlier in the day. Elfyn Evans, who was leading the overall World Championship standings, also rolled his car. However, spectators were able to help him return the vehicle to the road, allowing him to continue the rally.
