RB Leipzig narrowly defeats Ingolstadt in friendly

RB Leipzig secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over third-division club FC Ingolstadt in their second pre-season test match, a performance that left new coach Martin Demichelis wanting more.

The decisive moment arrived early, in the fourth minute, when Ingolstadt's Simon Lorenz inadvertently directed a sharp cross from Brajan Gruda into his own net. Despite the match duration of two 60-minute halves, RB Leipzig created only two to three clear-cut chances thereafter.

Demichelis attributed the team's sluggishness to a demanding training schedule. "It was a classic test match. We trained twice a day this week, plus strength training. I immediately noticed that the players were not very fresh," he stated. He did, however, acknowledge positive contributions from players like Assan Ouédraogo, Arthur Vermeeren, and debutant Maxime Esteve.

Ingolstadt, managed by Sabrina Wittmann, showed promise in the latter stages, creating several opportunities against the Champions League participant. For Ingolstadt, this was their penultimate friendly before the league begins on August 8.
