Real Madrid and PSG Stunned, While Liverpool Finally Wake Up

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain endured damaging setbacks on Friday, while Liverpool finally found a way to win after two opening draws.

Madrid’s perfect start under José Mourinho ended unexpectedly in Seville. Real lost 1-0 to Real Betis in the fourth round of La Liga after Troy Parrott scored the only goal in the 81st minute. Betis moved level with Madrid on nine points, alongside Barcelona, the only remaining team with a perfect record before its weekend match.

PSG suffered a similar collapse at home. The French champions led Monaco 1-0 after Marquinhos scored in the 31st minute, but Nazinho equalized in the 58th and Stanis Idumbo Muzambo completed the comeback 14 minutes later. Monaco remained the only perfect team in France and strengthened its position at the top.

The defeat came on a busy night for PSG’s future. Luis Enrique extended his contract through 2030, while João Neves, Fabián Ruiz, Willian Pacho, Lucas Beraldo and Senny Mayulu also signed new deals.

Liverpool’s mood was different at Ipswich. Cody Gakpo created both goals for Alexander Isak, who struck in the sixth and ninth minutes. Ipswich never recovered from the quick double blow, and Liverpool controlled the rest of the 2-0 win. After two draws in which they rescued points late, the victory gave the team a calmer start to the new season.
