Real Madrid Presidential Candidate Riquelme Targets Klopp as Coach

Enrique Riquelme, a contender for the Real Madrid presidency, has declared that should he win the election against Florentino Pérez, his appointed sporting director, Raúl González, would reach out to German coach Jürgen Klopp. The objective is to offer Klopp the helm of a new sporting project intended to shape the club's trajectory for the next decade.

Riquelme explained that the selection of the future coach falls under the purview of the sporting area led by Raúl, whom he described as responsible for crafting the project. According to the businessman, Raúl has consistently proposed "a single name" for the coaching position since his own integration into the role: Jürgen Klopp, whom Riquelme lauded as "one of the greatest coaches of our time."

The candidate praised Klopp's track record at Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. Beyond his numerous titles, including a Champions League, Riquelme highlighted Klopp's skill in developing teams characterized by a strong identity, clear leadership, and a winning mentality. Riquelme acknowledged Klopp's recent public statements about not intending to return to coaching in the near future and his rejection of various offers.

However, Riquelme believes the challenge of managing Real Madrid could present a unique proposition. He assured that, if he secures the support of the club's members in the upcoming elections, Raúl González will contact the German coach on June 8 to personally present the candidacy's sporting vision.
