Record 6,916 candidates register for "Carol Davila" University medical admission exam

Bucharest's "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) has set a new record, registering 6,916 candidates for its July 2026 admission exam. This surge in applicants represents a significant increase of over 3,000 students compared to the previous year, highlighting the growing demand for medical education in Romania. The university is offering 1,947 places for the 2026-2027 academic year, comprising 1,291 state-funded positions and 656 fee-paying spots.

The educational offerings for the upcoming academic year include 985 places for Medicine, 274 for Dental Medicine, 114 for Pharmacy, and 574 for the Faculty of Midwifery and Nursing. The written admission exam is scheduled for Sunday, July 26. Notably, the Faculty of Midwifery and Nursing has seen the highest number of applications, with 3,282 registrations. In a new development, admissions for all undergraduate programs within this faculty will now be based exclusively on application review, without a written exam.

Competition remains fierce for other programs. Dental Medicine faces the highest competition, with 800 candidates vying for 190 state-funded places. At the Faculty of Medicine, 2,727 applicants are competing for 725 state-funded spots, 20 of which have already been filled by national and international Olympiad winners admitted without examination. The Faculty of Pharmacy has the lowest competition, with 107 candidates for 94 state-funded places.

Tuition fees for the 2026-2027 academic year range from 8,000 to 19,000 lei annually. UMF "Carol Davila" has seen a consistent rise in candidate numbers over the past seven years, indicating sustained interest in its programs. In 2025, 3,877 candidates applied for 1,650 places, and in 2024, the number was 4,204 for the same number of available spots.
