Record-breaking U.S. flag flies at Vilnius TV Tower for Independence anniversary

Vilnius TV Tower became the site for a historic display as organizers raised the largest U.S. flag ever seen in Lithuania.

The massive flag, covering 540 square meters and weighing 70 kilograms, was hoisted as part of a joint initiative by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the American Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Embassy. This event marks two new records: the largest foreign flag displayed in Lithuania and the largest foreign flag flown at the Vilnius TV Tower.

The ceremony served to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American Independence. Lithuanian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Audra Plepytė emphasized that the flag-raising symbolizes the robust friendship and partnership between Lithuania and the United States. U.S. Ambassador Kara C. McDonald and Tadas Vizgirda, Chairman of the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce, were among the distinguished guests present.

This initiative highlights the strong diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. The event's scale and location underscore the significance of the U.S.-Lithuanian relationship, particularly during this milestone anniversary for the United States.
