Record Heat Cancels Pro Baseball Games in Busan, Changwon

Record-breaking heatwaves forced the cancellation of professional baseball games in Busan and Changwon on August 1st. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced the decision to postpone the scheduled matches between Samsung and Lotte in Busan, and KIA and NC in Changwon, citing extreme temperatures.

Both Busan and Changwon have been under severe heat advisement. The KBO stated that with forecasts predicting temperatures to remain above 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 Fahrenheit) at game time, the decision was made to "prioritize the safety and health of spectators and players." The canceled games will be rescheduled at a later date.

Moving forward, the KBO plans to continuously monitor weather conditions in regions where games are scheduled. They will collaborate with game operations committees and team officials to determine game feasibility. In areas with severe heat advisories, the KBO will actively consider delaying start times by up to an hour or canceling games altogether to ensure safety.
