Recycle Old Clothes, Spread Love: Hsinchu City Invites Citizens to Donate for Environmental Protection on June 27th

Hsinchu City is encouraging residents to participate in a used clothing recycling event on June 27th, from 2 PM to 4 PM, at the first-floor plaza of the Far Eastern Department Store. This initiative, organized in collaboration with the Hsinchu City Spina Bifida Association, aims to promote resource circulation and social welfare.

The city government and Far Eastern Department Store cooperated in used clothing recycling activities in the previous two years, attracting enthusiastic participation from 1,891 citizens and collecting as much as 35,535 pieces of used clothing.

Attendees who donate used clothing will receive incentives based on the quantity donated. Donating 10 items earns a "eco-friendly wooden paddle cleaning brush," while 20 items yield a "decorative hand towel." The Hsinchu City Environmental Protection Bureau is further incentivizing donations, offering a "wood fiber clothes hanger" for those who contribute 30 items. These gifts are limited to 150 sets each, with a one-time redemption limit per person, while supplies last.

Mayor Kao Hung-an highlighted the success of previous similar events, noting that in 2024 and 2025, over 1,891 citizens participated, resulting in the collection of 35,535 pieces of used clothing. She expressed gratitude to the Far Eastern Department Store for partnering with local social welfare units again, providing a convenient recycling channel and offering tangible support to vulnerable groups through resource redistribution.

Environmental Protection Bureau Director Chiang Sheng-jen emphasized the addition of the "wood fiber clothes hanger," a product made from recycled clothing, as a promotional item. This aims to reinforce the message of resource recycling and waste reduction, ensuring that every piece of clothing is utilized within a circular economy. Residents are reminded to ensure all donated clothing is clean and undamaged, and they can also contact four registered social welfare organizations in Hsinchu City for donations outside of this event.

This event specifically adds a promotional item of 'wood fiber clothes hanger' made from recycled clothing, in order to strengthen the promotion of concrete actions for used clothing recycling and source reduction among citizens, allowing every piece of used clothing to implement a circular economy.
