Redesigned Toyota Hilux Sets New Standard for Pickup Trucks

Taipei, Taiwan – Toyota has launched a significantly redesigned Hilux pickup truck, aiming to set a new benchmark in the segment by blending robust off-road prowess with enhanced comfort and technology.

The new Hilux features a striking exterior design inspired by sumo wrestlers, characterized by a large honeycomb grille and sleek LED headlights, with prominent "TOYOTA" lettering on the front and rear. While maintaining its ample cargo bed, the truck now includes side steps for easier access. Despite its substantial size, which requires attention in urban parking, the Hilux offers a spacious interior that rivals SUVs.

The cabin adopts a horizontal design similar to the Land Cruiser, providing an expansive view for the driver. It is equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with an optional JBL sound system. These features move the Hilux away from traditional ruggedness, incorporating modern tech elements.

For off-road enthusiasts, the Hilux includes a dedicated four-wheel-drive control module for switching between 2WD, 4WD High, and 4WD Low, along with an MTS intelligent off-road terrain system. Standard safety features include Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, offering adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and pre-collision systems, complemented by a 360-degree camera with a see-through chassis view and seven airbags, bringing its safety specifications close to those of passenger SUVs.

On the road, the Hilux's ride comfort has been noticeably improved compared to the previous generation, with better management of road vibrations. The electric power steering system makes handling more natural and stable, enhancing ease of use for both daily driving and recreational purposes. The 2.8-liter diesel turbo engine delivers 51 kgm of torque, providing ample power for inclines and challenging terrains. Toyota has successfully refined the Hilux, making it a versatile pickup that balances its legendary durability with a more refined, comfortable, and technologically advanced driving experience suitable for everyday life.
