“Reduced to Rubble”? Iran Rejects Trump’s AI Video of Alleged Attack on Oil Island Kharg

Donald Trump posted a video showing huge explosions and wrote that Kharg Island was being “reduced to rubble.” Iran dismissed the video and said the country’s most important oil island remained calm.

Hamid Bovard, head of Iran’s state oil company NIOC, called Trump’s posts ridiculous, according to the semi-official Nournews portal. He said oil production on Kharg had not stopped. A Reuters review found that the video was most likely created with artificial intelligence, and there were no signs of an attack on the island hours after Trump shared it.

The White House and the U.S. Department of Defense did not initially respond to requests for comment. The episode came only hours after fresh military confrontations between the United States and Iran, the first such clashes since July.
