Reem Al Hashimy receives Italy’s prestigious award

Reem Al Hashimy, the UAE's Minister of State for International Cooperation, has been honored with the Marisa Bellisario Award, one of Italy's highest distinctions for exceptional women leaders.

The prestigious award celebrates individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary achievement across diplomacy, government, business, science, innovation, culture, and humanitarian action. At the 38th edition of the award ceremony in Rome, Antonio Tajani, Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, presented the award to Al Hashimy. This places her among a select group of influential global leaders whose work has significantly impacted their nations and the world.

Prior to the ceremony, Al Hashimy attended a reception hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella for the award recipients. This event highlighted the award's standing within Italy's political and public spheres and the recognition it grants to those making a positive international impact. The award coincides with strengthening UAE-Italy relations, following President Mattarella's state visit to the UAE in January 2026, which marked a significant step in their strategic partnership.

Al Hashimy's distinguished record includes significant contributions to diplomacy and international cooperation, particularly in strengthening ties between the UAE and Italy. She also played a pivotal role in organizing Expo 2020 Dubai, a landmark global event that set new industry standards. The Women's Pavilion at Expo further emphasized the crucial role women play in driving development and societal progress. This recognition also celebrates the progress of Emirati women under the vision of the UAE's late founding father, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a legacy continued by President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and championed by H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak.
