Regional 12 calls on families to send their children to classrooms

Regional Education Directorate 12 in La Altagracia, Dominican Republic, has declared its readiness to commence the 2026-2027 academic year on Monday, August 24. The directorate is urging parents across the province to send their children to educational centers starting at 8:00 AM.

Regional Director of Education Aidé López confirmed that the Ministry of Education has set the start date for classes. She stated that measures are in place to guarantee student enrollment and to address remaining infrastructure challenges in some schools. López made these remarks during a press conference outlining the directorate's preparations for the new school year.

López assured that all students have been assigned places, although she acknowledged that specific situations in certain areas are still being resolved. In Villa Cerro, approximately 30 prefabricated classrooms have been tendered and will be installed soon. The staff for this new center has been designated, and students have already been enrolled. While these facilities are being completed, the regional directorate has established mechanisms for students to continue their classes, including asynchronous (virtual) learning processes.

In the southern part of Higüey, some issues related to rented schools and centers undergoing administrative validation are still pending. However, López confirmed that students are enrolled and their assigned schools are identified. For Verón, described as a "very neuralgic" area due to its population density, dialogue has been maintained with the Dominican Teachers' Association and local educators. López asserted that all students in Verón have been placed.

Regarding teacher performance-based incentives, López explained that a calendar was established following evaluations for teachers to appeal results. Cases of teachers unable to participate in the initial evaluation due to illness or other circumstances were also considered. She indicated that once this process concludes, incentives will be disbursed within the stipulated timeframe. López views the payment of these incentives as an administrative process with set dates and not an impediment to the start of classes.
