Rena Dourou elected SYRIZA parliamentary group leader in Greece

Rena Dourou has been elected the new leader of the SYRIZA parliamentary group in Greece, following an internal party process. Her election came after Pavlos Polakis withdrew his candidacy, leaving Dourou as the sole contender for the position. She secured seven votes in favor, with one blank ballot cast.

In her first statements after the election, Dourou conveyed a message of unity and collective relaunch for SYRIZA. She stressed that a priority is the restructuring of the parliamentary group, aiming for what she described as the "rebirth" of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance. Quoting Nikos Kazantzakis, "Love responsibility," Dourou highlighted that party members are embracing their responsibilities to society despite facing ongoing difficulties.

She emphasized that the path forward requires seriousness, camaraderie, collectivism, and hard work to initiate the party's reconstruction and restore its political dynamism. Dourou issued a call for mobilization to all party members and officials, stating that "no one is superfluous" to the collective effort. She characterized SYRIZA as the "sole party of the renewing and radical Left," underscoring its role as a guarantor of democracy and a defender of the needs of Greek society.
